Clean-up!

This morning we had Sofia's mom, Marie, come in to read a story.  After talking about how important it is to take care of the earth, we headed out to the playground to clean up some trash.  We filled almost five small plastic grocery bags.  Someone thinks we collected over 300 pieces of trash!  Sofia hopes to spearhead a "Keep Thompson Clean" club next year here at school.

Special Visitors

This week Room 210 had some special visitors.  Ms. Newell came to talk to us about sun safety.  She told us that even when it is not that sunny, the UV rays can give us a sunburn.  We each got to make a bracelet with beads that change color in UV sunlight.
On Wednesday it was Isabella's birthday and we were treated to an entertaining chapter in Nanny Piggins, read by Isabella's mom, Janet.
We also had a visit from Doug, a psychologist who works with the Thompson community.  He talked to us about bullying.  Ms. Dichter had to pretend to be a bully- hard work.
This week we had to say goodbye to some special visitors- our butterflies!  Last weekend, many of them emerged from their chrysalis and we got to watch them get used to their new form and prepare to leave the cage.  Unfortunately, some of them did not survive the transformation, but we were not surprised; we had heard that only a small percentage of eggs actually make it to become a butterfly.  We brought the cage out to the Butterfly Garden and watched them take flight!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Habitat

Our trip to Habitat today was a big success!  The kids participated in a variety of activities that focused on how animals protect themselves from predators as well as the roles many animals play in the decomposition of organic materials.  The homework tonight was to tell you about the trip and what we learned.
